I'm not a cook. But I try. Really, I do. I make more of an effort ever since I met Howie (my fiancé.) But, there is definitely room for improvement. So, I'm always looking for quick and easy ways to make simple, yet delicious meals. Enter Laguna Salt. We had our first experience with these fantastic gourmet salts earlier this week.

Our dinner consisted of smashed cauliflower with melted cheese (in place of mashed potatoes, as we are watching our carbs), roasted brussel sprouts and grilled Norwegian salmon. I followed Laguna Salt’s advice on which salts complement which dishes the best:

• I sprinkled some Black Truffle Artisan Sea Salt on the smashed cauliflower.
• The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection with Roasted Garlic Artisan Sea Salt.
• Before throwing our salmon on the grill, we added Summer Smoke Artisan Sea Salt.

As we began eating our dinner, the following words could be heard:

“Wow”

“I had no idea salt could taste so good”

These gourmet sea salts took our meal to a whole other level. Truly.

Let’s start with the smashed cauliflower. I usually use plain salt and pepper to season. And it’s always tasted good. But this dish was completely elevated by substituting regular S&P with Black Truffle Sea Salt. The flavor was rich, bold and fragrant. I could smell the delicious aroma even before I opened the package of salt!

Next, on to the brussel sprouts. I typically roast them in the oven with some extra virgin olive oil and, yes, you guessed it…good, old fashioned salt and pepper. This time, I decided to forgo the pepper and I simply used the Roasted Garlic Sea Salt. This salt has truly earned its name. It tastes and smells like cloves of fresh garlic have been roasted in the oven to perfection. Absolutely delicious.

Now, let’s discuss the grilled salmon. When I decided to use the Summer Smoke Sea Salt (say that five times fast) on the salmon, I took a whiff of it and was immediately transported to a campfire/BBQ situation. The team at Laguna Salt sure know how to name their products. It literally smells like smoke. Not in a scary OMG there’s a fire in the kitchen kind of way…..rather, a summer time BBQ with the tastiest meats on the grill kind of way. Our salmon was a pure, smoky delight.

So, this meal was a success, due in large part to the Laguna Salts that expertly added flavors to perfectly complement each dish. And a little really does go a long way…all you need is a pinch! I can’t wait to try the entire line of these awesome gourmet salts. Who knows, I might actually be able to say “I’m a cook” one of these days.

Until next time,
Robin
